Volunteer – Pop-Up Library

Job Description

Are you a warm and welcoming person?

Are you enthusiastic about supporting primary school students in the community?

We are looking for a reliable, friendly and adaptable person who is willing to support the Pop-Up Library weekly sessions in Tewkesbury. These sessions aim to benefit the students of local primary schools.

The Pop-Up Library Volunteer would provide operational support to the library in the 25/26 academic year. Ideally, our volunteers would help deliver books between Tewkesbury Library and Priors Park Neighbourhood Project, set up the room so that it is ready for the sessions, greet volunteer librarians and students, and ensure the room is left clear at the end of the sessions.

Currently, the sessions are run every Monday 9:30am-5:00pm, and every Tuesday from 9am-10:30am. The Monday session would be picking up and returning books between the library and the project, and the Tuesday session would be supporting the Pop-Up Library.

Due to the location of the project and Tewkesbury Library, we ask that our volunteers hold a full UK driving licence and have access to their own transport.

We place the safety of our Clients, Staff, Students and Volunteers first:

CCP uses Safer Recruitment practices to onboard volunteers. This means we require an application form to be completed, interview, induction training and Enhanced DBS/references.

What we hear from the volunteers:

We as a Charity

CCP was originally founded in 1989 by a local businessman in response to the growing number of homeless young people in Cheltenham. Recognising that people as young as 16 were sleeping rough around town after having thrown out of their family home, he purchased a building and opened a 10-bed hostel.

We have grown a lot since then and now aim to transform the lives of children, young people, families, and vulnerable adults by preventing homelessness, strengthening families and promoting independence. With a head office in Cheltenham, we currently employ over 250 staff, backed up by a team of over 150 volunteers, delivering services and projects in Gloucestershire, Worcestershire, Herefordshire, South Gloucestershire, Bristol, Wiltshire, and Dorset.

Together WE can make a difference

CCP is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all.

Our robust Safeguarding Policy guides our recruitment process. We believe in the rehabilitative power of employment and working toward a purpose, so a prior conviction will not necessarily prevent you from joining CCP.  Please note this role is subject to satisfactory pre-employment checks and also an enhanced check by the Disclosure & Barring Services, paid for by CCP.
