Support Worker – Thornbury
Job Description
You’ll be supporting a friendly and outgoing young gentleman in his late 20s who lives at home with his family and several dogs. He requires assistance with specialist manual handling, personal care, medication, physiotherapy, as well as close supervision due to self-directed challenging behaviors. The service is equipped with cameras for monitoring, and full training will be provided.
You’ll also complete shadow shifts to get familiar with the role – 2 morning shifts, 2 afternoon shifts, and one full day as lead – to ensure seamless support during his active and varied routine. He enjoys boxing, sailing, skiing, attending a brain-injury café, and visiting a dog hotel, so you’ll accompany him on these outings. Being energetic, enthusiastic, and active is essential.
Here’s a little about the person you’d be supporting, their interests, and the qualities they’re looking for in the people who join their support team:
“Hi!  I am a young man with a brain injury looking for a fun, energetic personal assistant to join my team and help me get the most out of life.
A bit about me – I’m into wheelchair skiing, Boccia, boxing, eating out and loads of outdoor activities.  I like to keep busy, have a laugh and get out and about as much as possible.  I do have dogs so you must be a dog lover – that’s a non-negotiable!
Because of my brain injury, I sometimes repeat myself (a lot!), so patience and a good sense of humour are really important.  If you are the sort of person who can laugh things off, keep things positive and bring good energy, we’ll probably get along great.
While I love being active, I also have down days where I like to relax, watch TV, play games, and just chill out.  I also do regular physio and speech and language therapy, sometimes I find this boring and hard work, so I need staff who can bring lots of motivation, understanding and encouragement and who are creative and can make it as fun and interesting as possible.”Â
