Resident Engagement Officer

Job Description

Come and work for an award-winning organisation!

We are an ambitious and forward-thinking council. We are committed to making Cheltenham a better place to live and work, enabling communities and businesses to thrive whilst protecting what is good about our town.

We aim to be an employer of choice where everyone is treated fairly and feels valued and respected. We aim to provide a stimulating and rewarding working environment that encourages our people to work together, provides opportunities for them to reach their full potential and achieve a healthy work/life balance.

Working at Cheltenham Borough Council means working as part of a committed, professional, and friendly team.

About the role

Cheltenham Borough Council is looking for a motivated and people-focused Resident Engagement Officer to join our Housing Services Community Team. This part-time role (22.2 hours per week) is a great opportunity to help shape a modern and flexible approach to tenant and leaseholder engagement.

Working closely with our Community Investment Manager, you’ll support the delivery of high-quality engagement that meets the standards set by the Regulator of Social Housing.

You’ll plan and deliver a customer-focused engagement service, manage our tenant and leaseholder panels, organise and chair meetings, and recruit and train new members.

You will help embed a culture of strong tenant voice across Housing Services by coaching colleagues on best practices. The role also involves ensuring compliance with the Social Housing Consumer Standards.

You’ll widen opportunities for residents to get involved in policy and scrutiny work, support complaints processes, and help shape budgets. You’ll also follow up on resident recommendations to ensure accountability.

In addition, you’ll deliver engagement events, produce updates such as newsletters and annual reports, and keep our website current — all while ensuring compliance with legislation, GDPR, and safeguarding responsibilities.

If you’re passionate about involving residents and making a positive impact on local communities, we’d love to hear from you.

Applications

Please tell us about your skills, knowledge, qualifications, experience and how they meet the criteria listed above and in the job description/person specification. We must be a good fit for each other, so let us know what’s important to you and why you want to work for Cheltenham Borough Council.

The council is committed to promoting equality of opportunity, and we welcome applications from all sections of the community.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
