Many of you have probably heard of Stroud Brewery, seeing as they won the C2S Awards sustainability category in 2024 and corporate social responsibility in 2025.
I wanted to share a bit of how they have been working on their social & environmental responsibility journey over the last 8 years.
About this time 8 years ago I was introduced to Greg Pilley. He is Managing Director at Stroud Brewery. He wanted to change the UK brewing sector towards Organic beer and create a thriving community-focused business.
When I told him about B Corp, he didn’t have internal resource to embark on the journey, but B Corp really resonated with him so we started working together, so I could take on the majority of the work.
As part of the improvement journey, they:
– moved into new premises which they co-designed with their landlord to make them as energy and water efficient as possible.
– at their new premises, they also created new spaces for music and community events, so that their facilities are not only used as a brewery but as a cultural hub
– they also started measuring their company’s greenhouse gas footprint, so that they could identify where to make the biggest reductions
The result of this work has meant:
– By installing solar panels, they now provide 25% of their electricity requirement on site
– The diversification & focus on community has helped increase their turnover by 21% from 2022 to 2023
– it turned out switching from glass bottles to aluminium cans saved them 65 tCO2 off their overall GHG footprint
