Why BCorp?
The new B Corp standards are here—and for forward-thinking businesses, they offer more than just a stamp of ethical approval. With a sharper focus on accountability and performance, the updated certification framework is fast becoming a strategic advantage for companies looking to attract top talent, win new business, and drive long-term value.
A shift toward fully-embedded positive impact
Businesses have until 31 December 2025 to submit on the current standards, but from January 2026, all must meet the new mandatory requirements. The revised B Corp framework moves beyond the flexible points-based approach of the past. Companies are now required to meet defined expectations across ten core impact areas, including climate action, living wages, governance, and social equity.
While more rigorous, the new structure offers clearer guidance and more predictable outcomes for businesses serious about embedding impact into their operations. Far from a simple compliance exercise, the standards encourage integrating sustainability into core strategy, helping companies meet rising stakeholder expectations while operating more efficiently and with greater focus.
A more bespoke and transformative approach
A key update is how tailored the process has become. The standards now reflect differences in business size, industry, and geography—making them more relevant and achievable without lowering ambition.
This allows companies to benchmark themselves accurately, focus on material issues in their sector, and avoid wasting resources on areas that don’t drive value. For many, this means smarter decision-making, better risk management, and operational cost savings—particularly in energy use, supply chains, and employee retention.
Certification that builds business value
B Corp certification offers more than ethical credibility—it drives measurable business performance.
A 2024 survey of 132 UK B Corp SMEs found they outperformed the wider SME market on key indicators. Between 2023 and 2024, B Corps saw average turnover growth of 23.2%, compared to 16.8% for non-B Corps. Employee headcount grew by 9.6%, versus 0.5% for others.
Looking ahead, 62% of B Corps expect turnover growth in the next 12 months, versus 38% of non-B Corps. 54% plan to expand their teams, compared with 29% of non-certified businesses.
B Corps also report stronger employee retention with an average attrition rate of 10%, well below the 16–20% typical for others. Leadership diversity is higher, with 82% of B Corp leadership teams including at least one woman (vs. 54%), and a narrower gender pay gap (13% vs. 16%).
These results demonstrate that B Corp certification is not just about doing good—it’s about doing better business.
