Leading regional law firm, WSP Solicitors, has announced the expansion of its Private Client Team with the appointment of specialist, associate solicitor Mary McCutchan.

Mary joins the firm from Clarke Willmott, having previously spent four years at top 100 firm Hugh James Solicitors.

A member of STEP, a globally recognised professional body that sets and upholds the highest standards for practitioners in Wills, Trusts, Estates, and Tax, Mary’s specialisms include advising high and ultra-high net worth clients and dealing with complex estates. Mary also acts on estates with foreign assets in multiple jurisdictions, as well as Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) arrangements for business owners.

“WSP Solicitors has a great reputation, rich history, and deep roots in the Gloucestershire community. I’m looking forward to adding my experience to the mix and meeting all our clients over the coming weeks – both existing clients and those experiencing the fantastic WSP services for the first time.

“Over the last year there have been significant changes which have dramatically reshaped the legal landscape, especially in relation to business and agricultural assets, as well as the forthcoming changes to private pensions and inheritance tax. Helping to guide our clients through these potentially complex issues will be very important moving forward.”

Eliza Dunlop has also joined the firm as Marketing Assistant, following two years as Centre Fundraising Organiser for Cheltenham-based cancer support charity Maggie’s. Before her time at the charity, Eliza worked in the publishing sector and held roles at The Cheltenham Trust and estate agents Perry Bishop.

On top of these new appointments WSP Solicitors has also announced the promotion of Family Law solicitor Lydia Andrews to Senior Associate.

Lydia, who has been with the firm since 2014, is both Law Society Children Law Accredited and a member of Resolution, a national body of legal professionals committed to dealing with family cases with compassion and sensitivity. Her specialisms include social services issues, child arrangements, and acting on domestic abuse cases.

In her new role Lydia will take on increased responsibilities within the Family Law team and across the firm as part of its new management pathway. The initiative is aimed at recognising the different ways in which each member of the team wants to grow their professional skills, whether that’s further developing their legal expertise or if they are actively wanting to develop leadership responsibilities, or a combination of both.

With offices in both Stroud and Elmbridge East Business Park, Gloucester, WSP Solicitors are an independent multi-practice area firm spanning Private Client, Residential Conveyancing, Family Law, Commercial Property and Corporate Law. With a presence in the region for over 260 years the firm now employs 65 legal professionals and team members.

“We’re thrilled to welcome both Mary and Eliza to the firm. They bring a wealth of experience and expertise in their respective fields which will strengthen the services we provide to our clients and enhance the ways in which we deliver them.

“It’s also a real pleasure to announce Lydia’s promotion. Having been with the firm for over a decade, it’s been fantastic to see her growth, both as a highly experienced legal practitioner and in actively supporting and mentoring other members of the team.

“This announcement highlights an important part of our firm’s DNA. We truly believe that by nurturing from within, as well as creating exciting opportunities for those looking to join the firm, we’ll be able to deliver on our commitment of making our clients’ lives less complicated.”
