Kicking off the year with a full house for the C2S & Cheltenham Racecourse Business Breakfast
This month’s C2S Quarterly Business Breakfast, held in collaboration with Cheltenham Racecourse, treated guests to a truly special experience with Tom Scudamore, one of the most successful National Hunt jockeys of his generation.
Tom, whose career boasts over 1,500 winners, 10 Cheltenham Festival victories, and multiple Grade One wins including the legendary King George VI Chase and Stayers’ Hurdle on Thistlecrack, needs little introduction in the racing world. A proud member of a renowned Gloucestershire racing family, Tom retired in 2023 after a remarkable 25-year career and has since remained at the heart of the sport as a broadcaster, writer, and speaker.
During the breakfast, Tom spoke openly about his journey in racing, following in the footsteps of his grandfather and father. He shared candid stories about his favourite horses, career highlights, and the challenges of stepping away from racing — what he prefers to call a “transition” rather than retirement. Tom also offered insights into the mental and physical demands of the sport, the decisions behind leaving the saddle, and the excitement of moving into training and media work while maintaining his love for horse racing.
Guests were then treated to a behind-the-scenes tour of the Cheltenham Racecourse weighing room, walking in the footsteps of legends like Ruby Walsh and AP McCoy. Tom gave a fascinating insight into a jockey’s race day, from preparation to the post-race routines, offering a unique glimpse into the sport from an insider’s perspective.
The morning concluded with a delicious breakfast prepared by the Cheltenham Racecourse catering team, giving attendees the perfect opportunity to network, reflect on the discussion, and soak up the atmosphere of one of racing’s most iconic venues.
It was a truly inspiring and memorable event — combining business, sport, and stories of perseverance, passion, and leadership.
