THE CONVERSATION

The climate emergency is a national conversation. But what does it mean for your business?

Extreme weather is increasingly becoming a business issue. We’ve seen the effects of rising temperatures and changing weather conditions. But how many of us have really considered what this could mean for the way we operate our businesses over the next five, ten or twenty years?

  • What happens when prolonged heat affects employee wellbeing and productivity?
  • Are our offices, factories and workplaces designed for increasingly high temperatures?
  • If air conditioning and cooling become essential, what does that mean for energy consumption and cost?
  • What happens if water becomes more constrained?
  • How resilient are our transport networks and supply chains?
  • What does changing risk mean for our insurance?
  • And does our existing business continuity plan actually prepare us for any of this?

The national People’s Emergency Briefing campaign is seeking to increase understanding of the climate and nature crisis through screenings in communities, workplaces and networks. Its organisers say more than 4,500 screenings are already taking place across the UK and beyond.

C2S wants to use that national conversation as the starting point for a very practical business conversation.

We will begin with extracts from the People’s Emergency Briefing, before bringing together experts and business leaders to explore what the issues raised could mean in practical terms for our organisations.

And importantly:

What can we actually do about it?

C2S wants to take that conversation one step further for business.

Because for business leaders, climate change isn’t only an environmental or sustainability issue. It’s increasingly a question of people, productivity, premises, energy, water, transport, waste, insurance, cost and business continuity. And we have all experience the impact of climate change this summer!

C2S are bringing together business leaders and specialists for our next Big Conversation: What does this mean for our businesses – and what should we be doing now to prepare.

WHAT WE WILL EXPLORE

What does this mean for business, and what can we do about it?

PEOPLE & PRODUCTIVITY
What does prolonged heat mean for wellbeing, sickness, concentration and productivity? How should businesses protect their people?

WORKPLACES & BUILDINGS
Are our workplaces fit for a changing climate? What happens if greater cooling and air conditioning become essential?

ENERGY & SOLAR – HEWER
How can businesses reduce their energy exposure, generate more of their own power and potentially save significant amounts of money?

REAL BUSINESS CASE STUDY – PREMIER / RICHARD MARKEY
What has Premier actually done? What has it cost, what has it saved and what can other businesses learn?

WATER RESILIENCE
What happens to businesses if water becomes increasingly scarce, restricted or expensive? How can we reduce unnecessary consumption now?

TRANSPORT & EVs – LEASE ELECTRIC
How can businesses transition their fleets, support their people and use EV salary sacrifice and workplace charging to reduce both costs and carbon?

WASTE & RESOURCES
How can better waste management and resource efficiency support both resilience and net-zero ambitions while potentially reducing costs?
