What is a Procurement and Supply Chain Apprentice?

This apprenticeship is designed as a 15-month learning journey, supported by the team at SGS Filton. Throughout the programme, you will combine workplace learning with formal study, helping you develop a strong foundation in procurement and supply chain practice. The knowledge and experience you gain will support your professional accreditation and help launch your career in this sector.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and commercially aware individual who is keen to learn and contribute. In this role, you will support a range of procurement categories and help the team deliver value, quality and service across the business. You will take pride in working within a supportive culture that encourages questions, curiosity and continuous development. The successful applicant will be self-motivated, positive, accurate, detail-focused and confident communicating with a range of stakeholders.

Key responsibilities and activities

This role would suit someone who enjoys solving problems, working with data and communicating clearly. You will learn how to identify, report and help resolve supply issues, while developing the ability to explain information in a simple and practical way. Some of the key activities in this apprenticeship include:

• Working collaboratively across the Procurement Group to support efficient purchasing techniques and encourage best practice.
• Supporting commercially focused negotiations with suppliers to help achieve cost management targets.
• Assisting with the creation, implementation and management of supplier contracts.
• Helping to identify cost reduction opportunities while supporting negotiations that deliver best value, quality and service.
• Identifying risks and supporting the implementation of solutions to manage or mitigate them.
• Contributing to key cross-functional projects and representing the commercial needs of a FTSE 250 organisation.

What qualification do I need, and what will I achieve?

You will need to provide evidence of a minimum of five GCSEs, including Maths and English, plus A levels or equivalent qualifications.

Following successful completion of the apprenticeship, you may transfer into a role within the Procurement Team, if a suitable opportunity is available. You will continue to develop your skills and knowledge, and for the right candidate, further study towards a degree apprenticeship or another sector-relevant qualification may be supported where appropriate.

Where will I be working?

You will be based across our Gloucestershire sites at New Mills, Wotton-under-Edge and Woodchester, Stroud. You will need the ability to travel independently to both college and work. You may also have the opportunity to visit other Renishaw sites, including Miskin in South Wales and Stonehouse. Hybrid working options are available.
